UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGT) are important hepatic xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes for drug metabolism and elimination in humans. Identifying the UGTs responsible for glucuronidation of existing and novel drugs helps predict adverse reactions from drug-drug interactions or genetic polymorphism. As with the cytochrome P450 class of enzymes, a multiplicity of UGT forms exists in human liver and extra-hepatic tissues.
