Job Description:

As Laboratory  Coordinator, you will coordinate the workflow within the Industrial Hygiene department and ensure that work is carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule workload within the team and ensure that the samples are analyzed within the specified turn-around time.
  • Provide suggestions to direct supervisor on research and development related projects that are deemed necessary to the department and assist with scheduling such projects within the team.
  • Liaise with other departments on “shared” instruments to ensure timely scheduling of instruments and the overall efficiencies of the analysis.
  • Provide training to staff within the team on both analysis and instrument operations.
  • Perform instrumental and non-instrumental analysis using procedures described in the Test Methods, without modification, and carry out analyses or operations only if that procedure or operations is documented.
  • Assist direct supervisor in the performance review of staff and setting up personal objectives; may participate in the hiring process and handle minor on-the-job related performance issues. Refer all other disciplinary related issues to direct supervisor.
  • Communicate to direct supervisor on any operational inadequacies that require his/her attention such as staffing and supply issues.
  • When qualified (as in senior position), communicate with clients on technical inquiries; handle customer complaints and respond to client needs. May liaise with Technical Service Group by providing information on current project status and capacities in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the work within the group relating to quality systems such as:
  • Ensure staff receive adequate training and are competent to carry out assigned work.
  • Liaise with service personnel for instrument repair; ensure preventive maintenance programs are carried out.
  • Ensure test methods are suitable for the intended purpose and documented; review and authorize them.
  • Ensure test methods are validated and validation records are maintained.
  • Ensure staff follow policies, operating procedures and test methods as documented, including maintenance of associated records.
  • Review and validate test results.
  • When required, prepare, review and approve final reports.
  • Investigate problems, take remedial action as required, and identify actions to prevent recurrence; maintain records.
  • Ensure the group/department is in compliance with applicable Standards/Regulations, including participation in Proficiency Testing Programs.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports as requested for the annual review of the laboratory’s management system.

Job Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. or Diploma from a recognized technical institute.
  • Some supervisory experience plus a few years experience in the laboratory and in general analytical procedures.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance Principles and Quality Control Procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and leadership skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
