Job Description:
As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible for the preparation of samples in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures (SOP) and health and safety policies.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepares samples using procedures described in analytical method. Creates a “Batch” in LIMS before initiating the extraction.
- Performs extraction procedures as described in SOP without modification.
- Prepares reagents and mobile phases as required for the analysis in accordance with documented procedures.
- Performs non-instrumental analysis and instrumental analysis of samples that only require basic instruments such as UV/Vis Spectrophotometer, pH meter, etc., using procedures described in Analytical Methods, without modification, and to carry out analysis or operations only if that procedure or operation is documented.
- For analyses that require instruments such as HPLC/GC/GCMS/LCMS, performs sequencing and loading under supervision of an analyst. Follows proper documentation procedures.
- Carries out quality control procedures and recognizes when data is unacceptable using guidelines stated in the Analytical Methods or in department’s Standard Operating Procedures.
- Prints chromatograms and performs simple calculations under supervision by an analyst.
- Assists with the training of new technicians on sample extractions.
- Maintains training records.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties such as silinizing glass wool and liners, preparation of diazomethane, calibration of freezers, ovens, refrigerators, syringes, pipettes, waste solvent disposal, fume hood cleanup, etc.
- Maintains a clean and tidy laboratory area and clean supply of glassware and apparatus. Provides assistance to analysts as required and performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
Job Qualifications:

B.Sc. or Diploma (chemical sciences preferred) from a recognized technical institute or equivalent experience.
