Project Accountant

The successful candidate will be responsible for taking a lead role in project accounting, providing financial expertise and working with various levels of management in addition to other administrative responsibilities. There is an expectation that all functions will be performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Company’s policies and procedures.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the implementation and design of the project accounting module for Great Plains ERP system
  • Supports operating divisions in cost management by tracking actual project cost to budgeted project cost
  • Supports operating divisions with special projects (i.e. cost analysis, project costing, revenue forecasting and monthly reporting)
  • Prepares project cost and gross margin reports and performs margin and budget variance analysis
  • Works with Project Managers in the development and preparation of project budgets
  • Participates in regular status meetings with Project Managers
  • Facilitates the entry of project labour and project costs into the project accounting system
  • Maintains information required for annual SR&ED tax credit reports
  • Prepares financial statements and percentage of completion reports for each project
  • Reconciles project accounting G/L accounts to supporting schedules on a monthly basis
  • Special projects as assigned by the Corporate Controller and Director of Finance

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with Great Plains ERP and development of financial reports
  • 3 years related experience, with at least 1 year in a similar capacity
  • Strong understanding of project accounting requirements and processes
  •  Ability to work with and contribute positively to the accounting team and other departments
