CANTEST provides toxicology services for environmental effect studies, possibly relating to sediment and water quality, ecotoxicology, chemical fate, environmental impact and risk assessment.
Customized Studies for Toxicity Investigations for Industry and Government
- Site-specific water quality criteria toxicity testing and evaluation; for example, to obtain data for proposing environmentally relevant discharge limits to regulatory agencies for metals such as molybdenum, thallium, barium, and uranium
- Innovative test method development using a variety of test organisms
- On-site toxicity testing using mesocosms or in situ bioassays; for example, this testing may be used to assess sublethal effects of effluent toxicity in marine mussels. Parameters include bioaccumulation, survival and growth of bivalves
- Toxicity audits of industrial facilities; on-site toxicity tests may be conducted on water samples from various process streams
Analysis of Biomarkers for Exposure Assessment and Biomonitoring Studies
- Screening of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in fish bile and crab haemolymph samples using syncronous fluorescence spectrophotometery (SFS), HPLC-Fluorescence, GC/MS
- Induction of cytochrome P450 in fish
- Tissue analysis of metals and organic compounds
Toxicology Consulting and Results Interpretation
- Toxicity data interpretation and reporting
- Comprehensive literature reviews that include compiling and comparing acute and chronic toxicity of compounds. Evaluating the toxicity of compounds to humans, wildlife and aquatic species
