Board of DirectorsDr. Donald B. Rix - Chair Dr. Rix is Chairman of the Board of Directors and founder of MDS Metro Laboratory Services, the largest independent medical laboratory in British Columbia. Dr. Rix is an active member of the biotechnology industry, currently serving on the boards of BIRC Corporation, Genyous Inc., and Kinexus Bioinformatics Corporation. He recently received the Lifetime Leadership and Achievement Award from BC Biotech for his contributions to the biotechnology sector. Dr. Rix received his BA degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1953 and his MD degree in 1957. His education includes a Fellowship in General Pathology (FRCP) Canada in 1972, an Honorary Diploma of Technology from the BC Institute of Technology in 2003, and an Honorary DSc (Doctor of Science) degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1998 and from Simon Fraser University in 2004. Dr. Rix received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award Medal in November, 2002. Don M. Enns Mr. Enns has well over 20 years of laboratory management experience. He is the President & CEO of CANTEST Ltd. and CANAM Industrial Laboratories Group, which has subsidiaries and affiliates in Canada, the United States and Malaysia. Mr. Enns obtained his BSc from Trinity Western University and an MBA designation from the University of British Columbia. He currently sits on the boards of several local companies involved in the life sciences field and has been President of organizations such as the Canadian Association for Envionmental Analytical Laboraotries (CAEAL) and the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA.) Mr. Enns has been instrumental in CANTEST's expansion into European and Southeast Asian markets. His experience overseas includes laboratory consulting such as consultation on new laboratory construction, business development and mergers & acquisitions. Doug Blakeway Doug Blakeway is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Technologies Inc., a publicly traded international developer and distributor of wireless security and tracking equipment for corrections and law enforcement agencies. A successful entrepreneur and investor, Mr. Blakeway has brought a variety of patented projects to profitable commercial application. He has organized and operated several successful start-up companies over the past 40 years, ranging from service firms to high-technology manufacturing. He possesses significant expertise in international business. Mr. Blakeway has been a Director with a number of TSX listed firms and currently serves on the boards of the Canadian Listed Company Association, Legend Power Systems Inc. and Texas Gas & Oil Inc. James Ferguson Mr. Ferguson is a well regarded Vancouver businessman with extensive experience in financial management. Mr. Ferguson immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1957 to take a position with a major Canadian financial institution. He left the banking industry in 1974 and spent the next 17 years with Metro McNair Clinical Laboratories as their Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Ferguson is actively involved in the medical and financial communities; he is currently Trustee for an accounting society scholarship fund and President of the Yaletown Society, which operates a 130 bed intermediate care facility. He obtained his CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation in 1974 and was elected a lifetime member of the society in 1998. Frank Holler Mr. Frank Holler is the Chief Executive Officer of BC Advantage Funds and previously served as the CEO of Xenon Pharmaceuticals from 1999 to 2003. Prior to joining Xenon, Mr. Holler was President & Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of ID Biomedical Corporation as well as founding director of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Holler is also Chairman of BIRC Corporation, Protox Therapeutics and Emerillon Therapeutics as well as a Director of Allon Therapeutics, BC Advantage Funds, Genome BC, Pherotech International, Providence Healthcare and Xenon Pharmaceuticals. Hector MacKay-Dunn, QC Mr. MacKay-Dunn has over 25 years of business consultation experience for mergers/ acquisitions, financing transactions, international technology, biotech partnering and licensing transactions. He has advised clients in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, medical equipment and devices, mining and manufacturing. Mr. Mackay-Dunn is recognized as one of the leading lawyers in Canada and has been awarded for professional excellence by Martindale Hubbell Peer Review with its highest ranking (AV). Mr. Mackay-Dunn has served as Director and Corporate Secretary for a number of public and private corporations. He is Co-Chair of the BC Innovation Council and a Director of Genome British Columbia, BC Leading Edge Endowment Fund, Aspreva Pharmaceuticals and CANTEST. In the past, Hector has also been President of both the United Way of the Lower Mainland and the Vancouver Red Cross. Laurie Rix Laurie Rix is a CANTEST shareholder and board member. She has been politically involved, having held senior positions with the Vancouver Mayor's office and was instrumental in coordinating several successful civic election campaigns. |
